The impending arrival of star German signing Nadine Angerer means everyone at Brisbane Roar is itching to get the upcoming W-League season underway.

Angerer, the current European female player of the year and hugely experienced German international goalkeeper, is set to hook up with her Roar teammates later in the month.

The capture of the German captain is a huge coup for the Roar and the league, which kicks off its sixth season on November 9.

Roar defender and Matildas co-captain Clare Polkinghorne says the news Angerer is joining the Roar has definitely got her teammates talking.

"She's probably one of the best goalkeepers in the world," Polkinghorne told AAP on Tuesday.

"It's not only a good signing for the Brisbane Roar, it's a good signing for the W-League.

"We're all very excited for her to come out and be part of the team."

Angerer is a two-time women's World Cup winner and five-time European championship winner with Germany, playing a leading role in her country's victory in the Euros in July.

During that match Angerer saved two penalties as the Germans defeated Norway 1-0.

Polkinghorne said that display showed how important their new signing could prove to be as the Roar try to bounce back after missing the W-League grand final for the first time last season.

"The goalkeepers are so important these days whether playing out from the back or making saves," she said.

"She's one of those goalkeepers that can make critical saves and in the Euro final she saved two penalties.

"To do that on such a massive stage speaks so highly of her ability and she's going to be a good asset to the team."
