United States defender Timothy Chandler has described his current situation with Nuremberg as the “low point” of his career and expressed concern that it may affect his World Cup chances.

Chandler, 23, has been demoted to the substitutes’ bench at the Bundesliga side following a poor performance during the first-round cup exit to minor league outfit Sandhausen.

The player, who was also eligible for Germany, is concerned that his predicament will lead to his continued exclusion from Jurgen Klinsmann’s national set-up after he was last capped in February.

“I have been a starter for two-and-a-half years now,” Chandler told Bild. “To sit on the bench is certainly the low point of my career so far.”

Chandler added that he now feared losing all chance of playing for the States in Brazil next summer.

“That is in the back of my head,” he added. “Jurgen Klinsmann frequently enquires about me. But I still have half a year left and will make better games for Nuremberg again.”
