The son of Olympique Marseille sports director Jose Anigo has been shot dead in a suspected gangland killing reports the BBC.
Adrien Anigo, 30, was shot and killed as he was getting out of his car in a rough neighbourhood of Marseille.
It was the second shooting in Marseille on Thursday, and is believed to be one of 15 similar killings in the southern French city so far this year
Police said Anigo was shot at point blank range, at least once in the head, before the gunmen fled the scene on motorbikes.
The victim had been in custody in the past, accused of taking part in a series of armed robberies, but had been released.
A statement on the club's official website said: "After the tragedy which has struck Jose Anigo, Olympique de Marseille would like to show its support and all its sympathy for Jose and his family. OM and all of its employees share their pain and are by their side as they go through this terrible experience."
Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton, who was on loan at Marseille last season, tweeted his condolences to the victim’s family, writing: "The thoughts of me and my family go out to Josè Anigo, his family and all at Olympique Marseille right now. Sorry to hear the tragic news".
