Socceroos defender Luke Wilkshire will miss this weekend's high-profile international friendly against Brazil due to a knee injury.

Wilkshire ruled out of Socceroos v Brazil

September 4, 2013

Socceroos defender Luke Wilkshire has joined Tim Cahill in being ruled out of Saturday's match against Brazil.

Russia-based Wilkshire travelled to Brasilia for the friendly match but failed to pass a medical assessment on arrival due to a knee injury.

Coach Holger Osieck said Wilkshire was not suitably fit to train or play in the clash with the five-time World Cup winners.

He is to return to his club Dinamo Moscow to recover, Football Federation Australia said in a statement posted on their website.

It follows Monday's withdrawal of striker Tim Cahill, who did not make the trip after suffering an ankle injury playing for his Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls at the weekend.

No players have been called in to replace Wilkshire or Cahill.

The match kicks off at 4.15pm local time Saturday (5.15am AEST Sunday).
