AC Milan are turning their attentions to Cagliari’s Davide Astori as one final signing this summer after receiving a refusal from Napoli for Paolo Cannavaro.

After strengthening their attack with Alessandro Matri and Kaka arriving over the last three days, Milan are now focusing on adding more weight to their defence with Italy international Astori subject of a last-minute bid.

The Rossoneri had tried to convince Napoli to sell Cannavaro, but the player’s agent has ruled out that hypothesis.

"Milan had proposed a swap with [Cristian] Zaccardo, but it’s unlikely," Cannavaro’s agent Enrico Fedele told Radio Crc. "Napoli don’t want it. They feel Cannavaro is still useful for them so it’s a deal which is not going to happen."

A move for Astori is more feasible, although Milan face competition for the Italy defender’s services from Everton, who appear more likely to meet the Sardinian club’s asking price of €8 million.

Astori left Milan on Monday morning by train, travelling with Milan’s Stephan El Shaarawy to Rome where the pair reported for international duty with Italy ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.
