Capoue, 25, fell awkwardly under a challenge from Santi Cazorla in the second half of Tottenham's 1-0 loss at the Emirates.

The France international left the field on a stretcher in some pain, and it was feared that he could face a lengthy absence amid concerns he had suffered a break.

But a scan revealed that he sustained an ankle sprain, meaning he faces around a month on the sidelines.

Capoue signed for Tottenham from Toulouse in the summer as part of manager Andre Villas-Boas' busy recruitment programme ahead of the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

France coach Didier Deschamps has called up Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons to replace the injured Capoue for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers away to Georgia and Belarus.

On Tuesday, the coach will decide whether to replace Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.
