AVB confirms new arrivals at Spurs
Roma have announced the sale of Erik Lamela for €30 million to Tottenham Hotspur, while confirming Adem Ljajic has arrived from Fiorentina.
Roma revealed Lamela's departure to Spurs on their official website, stating that the deal could rise by another €5 million, subject to bonuses, while Lamela later bid his goodbyes to the Giallorossi.
"I’m proud to have played with a Roma shirt," he said. "I hope to return one day.
"Maybe I haven’t managed to show everything that I would have wanted and been able to show. It’s also true that we lacked something as a team. I hope that things go better this season (for Roma). They all seem very focused. I hope that the club, the coach and my team mates go as far as possible.
"As for me, I hope to do well also at Tottenham. I’d like to thank and say goodbye to the fans, who always treated me well. I send them all a big hug and they will always have a place in my heart."
Tottenham have yet to confirm the deal for the Argentina international, who has been strongly linked with the club as speculation over Gareth Bale's future has intensified.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas said on Wednesday that he expected Bale's mooted €100 million switch to Real Madrid to be completed "very, very soon".
Villas-Boas also said he expects further summer arrivals in light of the cash injection received by the potential sale of Bale, with Christian Eriksen and Vlad Chiriches tipped to follow Lamela, 21, in signing at White Hart Lane.
Meanwhile, Ljajic, 21, arrives as Lamela's replacement, for an initial fee of €11 million on a four-year contract.
