Lionel Messi has rejoined training with Barcelona, but remains a doubt for Wednesday’s Supercopa second leg against Atletico Madrid at the Camp Nou.

Messi, 26, was taken off at half-time in last week’s 1-1 first-leg draw at Atletico’s Estadio Vicente Calderon, with subsequent tests showing he had picked up a bruise to a left thigh muscle.

Meanwhile, Adriano, who was taken out after scoring Sunday vs. Malaga, is being evaluated for Wednesday's match after aggravating a leg injury.

Messi did not travel with the Barca squad to Sunday night’s narrow 1-0 Primera Division win at Malaga, but a club statement released on Monday afternoon said he had taken part in the recovery session that morning with his teammates.

"Leo Messi joined up this Monday in work with the group,” the statement read. “Barca's Argentine forward had suffered a bruise to the femoral biceps tendon in his left thigh in the first leg of the Spanish Supercopa at the Calderon and, although his clinical evaluation was satisfactory, did not travel to Malaga in a precaution. This Monday he has taken another step in his recovery, and has participated in the session with his teammates."

It remains to be seen if Messi will be able to take part in Wednesday’s game, but Barca coach Gerardo Martino has been keen to stress in recent days that the forward will not be rushed back onto the pitch until he is ready.

Messi has recently suffered persistent injury problems, and has only completed 90 minutes on one occasion for his club since picking up a muscle injury in April’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Paris Saint-Germain.
