Daniel Agger’s agent has told bold.dk that quotes attributed to the Liverpool defender saying he would snub Barcelona were “simply fabricated”.

The Denmark international has previously suggested he would be open to an approach from Barca, saying: “There is one club who would make it very difficult for me to stay at Anfield. Barcelona would be great, because they are the best in the world.”

However, Agger was quoted as telling Spanish newspaper Sport that he had no interest in leaving Anfield.

“Barcelona are obviously a big club, but I have never thought about leaving Liverpool, unless they want to sell,” he was alleged to have said. “Everyone at the club is an integral part of my life -- I even have a YNWA [You’ll Never Walk Alone] tattoo! Frankly I don’t mind if we don’t finish in the top four, I love the club.”

However, his agent, Per Steffensen, said on Tuesday: “I just spoke with Daniel and he has not spoken with any journalists. The quotes are untrue -- simply fabricated.”

Agger also took to Twitter to stress that the comments were false.

Agger has three years left on his current deal at Anfield having been at the club since moving from Brondby in 2006.
