ESPN FC: Bye bye Cabaye?
Newcastle midfielder Cheik Tiote has urged manager Alan Pardew to strengthen the squad before the summer transfer window slams shut.
•Ryder: Magpies need major improvements
Pardew, along with the new director of football, Joe Kinnear, have only managed to sign the sole player this summer, Frenchman Loic Remy joining from Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan.
And after the club’s opening day 4-0 defeat to Manchester City, where Steven Taylor was shown a straight red card and defender Jonas Gutierrez was forced off injured, Tiote is demanding the club bring in reinforcements to help the small squad.
“Honestly, I think we need some more players in the squad, because we don’t have a big squad,” Tiote was quoted as saying in the Mirror.
“Now we’ve got Steven Taylor out for three games and Jonas Gutierrez is injured. It’s going to be tough on us because we don’t have a big squad. I hope the chairman is going to spend money on the club.”
