Jozy Altidore said he made the move to Sunderland as he wanted to challenge himself against the best.
USA striker Altidore joined Sunderland this summer after a stellar season with Eredivisie side AZ as he scored 31 goals in all competitions.
The 23-year-old, who had a loan spell in the Premier League with Hull City in the 2009-10 season, is now looking to prove himself at a higher level.
“One of the biggest reasons for the move for me was the chance to train against the best every day,” he told ussoccer.com. “My last club was a great club, and now I need to be challenged more. The chance to play with guys like Wes Brown and John O’Shea, who played at Manchester United for many years, is a huge opportunity.
“Going against them every day in training, and also having them around you and helping you get better, is invaluable at this stage in my career. Overall, that was the step I needed to keep getting better and improving as a player.”
