Valencia coach Miroslav Djukic has defended the club after departing striker Roberto Soldado questioned the club's ambition.

Soldado completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the week and left with a parting shot, saying he had "lost faith in this project".

But Djukic has now hit back at Soldado and insists the club is on the right path.

"I think Roberto was wrong," Djukic said. "It's normal that the club will defend its position, which is what the President [Amadeo Salvo] has done, and that is totally reasonable.

"All of us believe in this project and we think we have a great team. Roberto did some great things at Valencia, for which we are extremely grateful, and this will always be his home. Therefore, I think he is wrong in his declarations."

Soldado had said: "I'm leaving Valencia because I don't trust or believe in this project. I will say it again: I decided to leave the club the moment I lost faith in this project."
