Shakhtar Donetsk have completed the signing of Bernard from Atletico Mineiro for €25 million.
The 20-year-old winger had been linked with a switch to Arsenal, while he was widely expected to be joining Porto.
However, the Brazil international has instead opted for a move to the Ukrainian champions, where he has penned a five-year contract.
A statement published on Shakhtar's official website read: “Shakhtar Donetsk have signed a five-year deal with Bernard.
“The transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder, who previously played for Atletico Mineiro, is 25 million euros.''
Bernard, who plays down the left, looks to be a direct replacement for compatriot Willian, who left the Donbass Arena for Anzhi Makhachkala in January.
The Belo Horizonte-born player will still link up with a number of other Brazilians, however, with the likes of Douglas Costa, Luiz Adriano and Fred all on Shakhtar’s books.
Bernard spent three seasons with Atletico, scoring 22 goals in 100 appearances, while he has five caps for Brazil to his name.
