Greatest managers: Lattek

The former Bayern Munich coach wrote his name into the history books as he won the Treble last season, breaking numerous records and winning the Bundesliga by a 25-point margin. Heynckes also led his side to DFB-Pokal triumph and - finally - the Champions League trophy, after Bayern had previously lost two finals in three seasons.

Heynckes started his Bundesliga career as a player of Borussia Monchengladbach in 1965. When he ended his Bundesliga career with a game at Monchengladbach in May 2013, he had been involved in over 1,000 Bundesliga fixtures as coach and player.

His former team-mate Rainer Bonhof, a World Cup-winner in 1974 with Germany, will lead the tributes to the 68-year old who also managed Frankfurt, Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen.

Udo Lattek, another former Bayern coach, will receive the award for the Bundesliga’s most successful coach with eight titles and former Eintracht Frankfurt defender Karl-Heinz Korbel picks up the award for the most Bundesliga appearances as a player.

The celebration ceremony will be attended by Germany coach Joachim Low, Bayern president Uli Hoeness and past greats like Bayern’s Franz Beckenbauer and Paul Breitner.

"More people than ever get enthusiastic about Bundesliga, I don’t think there is any question about it," German Football League chief executive Christian Seifert said.
