Monaco have confirmed that Manchester United winger Nani was suggested to them as a summer signing – but it appears unlikely that they will buy him.

The Ligue 2 champions have spent more than €145 million on players including Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez as they aim to challenge for the title next season.

Nani, 26, has been strongly linked with a move to the principality and shares an agent, Jorge Mendes, with many of Monaco's new signings.

However, Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri dismissed the speculation at the weekend, and sports director Vadim Vasilyev told L’Equipe the Portugal international was not a priority.

"He was proposed to us," Vasilyev said. "He's a very good player but, at the moment, we're not yet in discussions.

"We've already made a lot of changes to our squad, and we also want to give a chance to our younger players. If needed, we still have time to make some adjustments at the end of the transfer window."

Vasilyev also said Monaco were not yet in negotiations with goalkeeper Rui Patricio. They are thought to have offered €10 million for the Sporting Lisbon player – but his club want €15 million. Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo, 32, could be another option if efforts to sign Patricio fall through.
