Leighton Baines will join Everton on their tour of the United States, manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed.
The left-back missed Saturday’s 3-1 pre-season victory at Blackburn with a hip injury, although he still found himself in the spotlight thanks to a Facebook video that appeared to show him giving a group of fans a lift to the game.
Baines has been the subject of interest from Manchester United, although Martinez said on Thursday that there had been no recent bids for him.
And the manager is optimistic that the 28-year-old will be ready to play in the International Champions Cup.
Everton’s first game in the competition will be against Juventus in San Francisco on Wednesday, followed by matches in Los Angeles and Miami.
Martinez said Baines is likely to be involved, telling Sky Sports News: "I don't think he’s going to be out too long. He’s going to travel with the team, so if I thought he didn’t have a chance to participate in the games in the USA then it wouldn’t be right for him to travel.
"At the moment, bearing in mind he recovers quite quickly, it was just a precaution we took with him today. We hope that Leighton can be fully fit very, very soon."
Despite not playing, Baines has been the focus of attention thanks to a three-and-a-half minute video of him apparently giving a group of Everton supporters a lift to the match.
The footage, filmed on a supporter's camera phone, shows the group of fans joking with the England left-back before being dropped off on a street next to Ewood Park.
