Dahoud making his mark at Gladbach
Highlights: Borussia Monchengladbach 1-5 Bayern Munich
Mahmoud Dahoud could break into the first team at Borussia Monchengladbach as he emerges as one of the biggest revelations of their pre-season games.
Dahoud, 17, known as “Mo”, was born in Syria on January 1, 1996, but his parents moved to Germany later that year. The holding midfielder joined Gladbach’s youth academy at the age of 15 and, having impressed in pre-season, it is thought he could be in the squad for the Foals’ Bundesliga opener against Bayern Munich.
Dahoud, currently applying for German citizenship, was part of the Gladbach side beaten 5-1 by Bayern on Sunday and, despite that result, impressed supporters at Borussia Park.
“A dream fulfilled,” he told the club’s official website. “I have always worked hard towards making it at professional level and to be playing at Borussia Park. It delighted me that it has already happened at the age of 17.”
He will continue to train with Gladbach’s first team and will be competing for a place with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Havard Nordtveidt, Thorben Marx and Christoph Kramer.
“Mo plays with intelligence, has good vision and reading of the game and is just good,” Gladbach boss Lucien Favre told Bild.
