The midfielder completed a move  from recently relegated Palermo to Fiorentina for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday and is already excited by the prospect of his new club.

Finishing fourth in Serie A last season and subsequently qualifying for the Europa League, spirits are high in Florence, with Ilicic believing that in joining Fiorentina he has joined Serie A's best club.

"I chose Fiorentina because last season they showed they are the best team in Italy," Iličić told the FirenzeViola website. "They play well, the city is beautiful, and they have great players that are managed by a well prepared coach.

"When my agent called me to tell me about the Viola’s offer I didn’t hesitate for a minute. It is still early to talk about tactics. I am versatile so we will see. I will wait and talk to the coach first, but it won’t be hard to play with all the attacking players that are here.

"Fiorentina are a side built to win and it is normal to have so many great players here."
