Mariners' Duke to make Socceroos debut

July 20, 2013

Central Coast Mariners young gun Mitchell Duke will make his Socceroos debut in Australia's opening East Asian Cup clash against South Korea in Seoul on Saturday.

Duke is the only debutant in the starting line-up and looks set to start at the point of attack in the absence of Josh Kennedy who wasn't released by his Japanese club Nagoya Grampus for the tournament.

The starting 11 also features Newcastle's midfield workhorse Ruben Zadkovich, in only his second international game, in which he's likely to partner Mark Milligan in midfield.

Milligan will wear the captain's armband for the first time, with veteran Melbourne Victory teammate Archie Thompson also starting.

Coach Holger Osieck has put Adelaide United shot stopper Eugene Galekovic between the sticks and appears likely to leave Matt McKay in the left-back position alongside Jade North, Ryan McGowen and Michael Thwaite in the backline.

Squad: Eugene Galekovic (gk), Michael Thwaite, Ryan McGowan, Mark Milligan (c), Archie Thompson, Dario Vidosic, Jade North, Ruben Zadkovich, Matt McKay, Mitchell Duke, Ivan Franjic.
