Wolfsburg eyeing Luiz Gustavo
Wolfsburg have confirmed their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo.
Gustavo, 25, returned to Bayern Munich team training on Thursday after his participating in Brazil's successful Confederations Cup campaign.
He could, however, be on his way out of Munich before the start of the season, with Sport Bild claiming an exit is possible following the signing of Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
On Thursday, kicker reported Wolfsburg have set their sights on Gustavo, and the Bundesliga club have now confirmed their interest.
"We have talked to his agent to feel the situation out," Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs said. "We have informed him about our interest. It is worth a try. He ticks all the boxes."
Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking echoed Allofs' comments, adding "If a player like him is on the market, you have to tinker with it and check if it is realistic.”
Gustavo, meanwhile, is quoted as saying in Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung: "What to say? I have a contract until 2015. We must wait and see."
The player's agent, Roger Wittmann added: "He only just returned to team training, has won four titles this year and feels great in Munich. Nothing more. He hasn’t even talked to the coach yet."
