Fiorentina have held talks with the agent of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti, according to reports in France, as the Italy international's pay row with the Ligue 1 champions rumbles on.

Verratti’s representative, Donato Di Campli, is believed to have sat down with Viola officials on Thursday to discuss a potential move to the Florence-based Serie A club, who are set to lose Stevan Jovetic and Adem Ljajic.

Bought as a relative unknown from Pescara a year ago, the 20-year-old has since proven his ability in the French top flight, the Champions League and even at international level.

As a consequence of his enhanced reputation, the midfielder instructed Di Campli to negotiate a pay rise from his current annual salary of €850,000 to around €3 million, putting Verratti in line with fringe first-team players such as Gregory van der Wiel.

Although he has frequently stated his ambition to remain at the Parc des Princes, where he has a contract until 2017, Verratti reportedly rejected an offer of €2.2 million-a-year from PSG last week, and could be tempted to move elsewhere.
