Lazio captain Stefano Mauri will soon discover whether he will play again next season, after it was announced that an investigation into match-fixing will deliver its findings on July 24 or 25.

Serie A
AssociatedStefano Mauri maintains his innocence.

If the ban of three years and seven months handed down to Torino goalkeeper Jean-Francois Gillet earlier this week is anything to go by, Mauri’s career could well be hanging in the balance.

The 33-year-old is accused of being part of an attempt to fix Lazio’s games against Genoa and Lecce in May 2011. The Italian sports authorities have produced a document over 90 pages long detailing how Mauri was part of a plot to fix both results for betting purposes.

The midfielder, however, has maintained his innocence, and would rather focus on attempting to lift the Supercoppa Italiana on August 18, when Lazio take on Juventus.

“[Juventus] is a crucial game to win," he said. "We’re all really enthusiastic after the way last season ended. Many of our fans are really excited and they’re getting right behind us. We’ve got to prepare the season well, looking to the future.”
