Newcastle defender Mathieu Debuchy has pledged his future to the club amid reports of a summer departure.

The 27-year-old joined the Magpies in January after protracted negotiations that first began last summer. Playing a significant role in helping the club avoid relegation on the penultimate weekend of the season, his first six months in England were not without struggles as he gave away two penalties and was sent off at home to Liverpool.

Heavily linked with a return to France following Newcastle’s disappointing league campaign, he has once again looked to quash such speculation.

"I don't know about the rumours saying I have been contacted by Paris or Monaco,” he told the Evening Chronicle. “I feel good in Newcastle. I want to stay in England. I love the Premier League.

"It was very tough for us during last season. We had a lot of injuries and we were in trouble trying to find the solutions to get out of the relegation zone."

Sold on the Premier League by close friend and Newcastle team-mate Yohan Cabaye, Debuchy is still adjusting to life in his new home. Having spent the summer undertaking English classes along with the four other January signings, he revealed he is still loving life in England.

"For me, the Premier League was a big discovery," he said. "Everything is much harder than it is in France. The game is faster and the teams are better, even the small teams. I also had to learn a new language as I did not speak English. It was complicated, but right now it is better. I love England even if it is different. Here, you are not always in hotels. On home match days, you arrive only two or three hours at the stadium, straight from your home."
