Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has joined Hamburg SV on a one-year loan deal, with the Bundesliga side given an option to buy the 26-year-old.
Djourou completed a medical on Monday morning and will spend the next season at the Imtech Arena.
It appears the Swiss international's future with the Gunners is nearing an end after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Hannover and is now open to a permanent move to Hamburg.
Djourou revealed his excitement at the deal, insisting the Bundesliga is a more "exciting" competition than the Premier League.
"I'm very happy now that everything is sorted," he told Hamburg's official website. "HSV are a big club, with a lot of quality and great fans. The Bundesliga is the most exciting and well-balanced league in Europe."
Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer acknowledged the signing of the club's number one defensive target for the summer.
"Johan was top of our wish list of defenders and will be a key component in the team," Kreuzer said. "He possesses leadership qualities, pace, he's good in the air and moves the ball well."
