Raffael close to Bundesliga return
Borussia Monchengladbach have agreed to sign Raffael from Dynamo Kiev on the premise that he passes a medical.
The Brazilian attacker, 28, will move for a reported fee of €5 million and sign a four-year contract after spending the last five months on loan at Schalke.
Raffael left Hertha Berlin for Ukraine at the beginning of the 2012-13 season following their relegation from the Bundesliga. However, after failing to secure a regular starting berth with the Dynamo he returned to Germany on loan.
“In Raffael we get another versatile and technically strong player for our attacking line,” Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said. “It was not easy to make this transfer become reality. That’s why we are very delighted that it worked out now.”
The Brazilian, who has played a total of 126 Bundesliga games for Hertha and Schalke, will reunite with Gladbach boss Lucien Favre for the third time. In 2005 Favre signed Raffael for FC Zurich and after Favre had moved on to Hertha he signed Raffael again in the winter of 2008.
Monchengladbach have already added the Germany international Max Kruse, 25, and the sought-after deep-lying midfielder Christoph Kramer, 22, to their squad.
