The American side were relaunched in 2010 after disbanding in 1985 when they boasted stars such as Pele and Franz Beckenbauer.

Head coach Giovanni Savarese is assembling a team to compete in the North American Soccer League and has already completed the signing of former Spain international midfielder Marcos Senna.

Savarese said of the friendly: "I'm looking forward to taking our squad to the UK. The chance to train and play in a different environment and face Orient will benefit our team and our pre-season preparations."

The Os, who missed out on a place in the League One play-offs by three points, are owned by sports promoter Barry Hearn.

Orient chief executive Matt Porter said: "We are honoured to be hosting the Cosmos at the Matchroom and look forward to welcoming them and their followers.

"This is the latest in a line of exciting announcement this summer and a rare opportunity to see the O's take on opponents from across the Atlantic so we are hoping for a great turnout in E10."
