Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido admits he has talked to Atletico Madrid about selling them Alvaro Negredo but claims a deal is still a long way off.

Negredo is expected to leave the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan this summer, with Sevilla sporting director Monchi saying this week that offers of up to €18 million received so far had not been high enough.

Del Nido told AS that Negredo’s name had come up during a recent dinner with Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin, but nothing concrete had been agreed.

“Whoever wants Negredo will have to buy what he is, a ‘crack’ [legend],” he said. “He is not going to leave for a price which we ourselves do not set. The other day I had dinner with Gil Marin and we spoke about that possibility and others, other players who might be interesting, but I see the possibility of [Negredo] leaving Sevilla very far away at the moment.”

Negredo reportedly favours a move to Atletico over other options which could include Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham, West Ham and Everton.

His name appears on the website of third-party investment fund The Doyen Group, along with those of other Sevilla players including Geoffrey Kondogbia, Alberto Botia and Jose Antonio Reyes, however Sevilla maintain they can decide if and when to sell.

The Vallecas-born hitman scored 25 Primera Division goals last season, but was overlooked by Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque for the current Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Sevilla have already signed Romania striker Raul Rusescu from Steaua Bucharest this summer for a fee reported to be around €2 million, while Monchi has admitted to interest in Real Zaragoza’s Helder Postiga, who looks a more like for like replacement for Negredo.
