James Perch is set to depart Newcastle United this summer after being informed that he can leave the club, ESPN understands.
Perch, who joined the Magpies from Nottingham Forest in July 2010, has become surplus to requirements at St James’ Park, despite making almost 40 appearances last season.
Reports earlier this week had suggested that Nigel Pearson was ready to bring the 27-year-old to Leicester City, with several other Championship clubs also understood to be interested.
The news of Perch’s imminent departure will likely be hard to take for a player who only recently spoke of how well last term went on a personal level.
“It has been good for me football-wise,” he said. “However, it is hard to take when you are playing and the team is losing. I would rather just win the game. I played a lot of games because of injuries and filled in different positions, which I do not mind doing.”
