Parma-bound midfielder Terry Antonis has been ruled out of the Young Socceroos squad to play in the U20 World Cup because of a torn quadriceps muscle.
Antonis suffered the injury during Monday's 5-0 win over New Zealand in a warm-up match in Wollongong.
It will keep him out for up to six weeks, and Young Socceroos coach Paul Okon will replace him in the squad with Antonis' former Sydney FC teammate, Hagi Gligor.
Okon said on Tuesday that he is very disappointed for Antonis.
"We all wish Terry a quick recovery and hope to see him back in training soon," Okon said.
"I'm confident that Hagi Gligor can step straight into the squad and help us with our campaign."
It has been a topsy-turvy week for Antonis, with Sydney FC finally approving his transfer to Italian club Parma FC after a dispute about the transfer fee.
The Young Socceroos begin their U20 World Cup campaign against Colombia in the Turkish city of Trabzon on June 22.
