The newly-promoted principality club spent a reported €60 million to bring the 27-year-old to the Stade Louis II late last month, and the Colombia international striker is hoping to repay some of his massive transfer fee by giving the 2003-04 Champions League runners-up a status to match their heavyweight financial resources.

"I'm happy with the faith Monaco have shown in me," he told media at his nation's training camp in Argentina ahead of Friday's World Cup qualifier in Buenos Aires. "It's a very interesting sporting project. We all want to establish Monaco among European football's elite."

Falcao will be joined on the pitch in the Argentine capital by James Rodriguez, 21, himself a summer addition to the Monaco squad. The pair have hit it off at international level, and Falcao expects the same chemistry in club colours.

"There's a very good understanding, not only football-wise, but also personally," the prolific forward said of his compatriot, signed for €45 million from Porto where the duo also played together. "He is a great player for whom Monaco have paid a lot of money."
