Shakhtar wasted no time in replacing the Manchester City bound Fernandinho by recruiting his fellow Brazilian international Wellington to a five-year deal.

And along with the transfer of another Brazilian, Fernando, the Ukrainian club have signaled their intentions for the upcoming season.

And despite being a European rookie, Wellington is confident is in the right environment to taste instant success.

"I'm very happy to have joined Shakhtar. I know this club is used to winning so that is why I signed, but the club's Brazilian contingent was also a factor.

"I understand that I need time to adapt to European football. But I'm ready for this."

And Wellington praised his team-mate and former Chelsea player Deco as the reason he is prepared for the next step in his career.

"Deco helped me a lot," he added. "He was my best friend at Fluminense and he did so much for me."
