France boss Didier Deschamps has confirmed compatriot Laurent Blanc is in advanced negotiations with Serie A outfit Roma about taking over as manager.

Blanc preceded Deschamps at the helm of Les Bleus, but has not returned to the managerial fold since departing the role in 2012.

The 47-year-old has since been linked with a variety of jobs with clubs and national teams, and Deschamps believes Roma may see the return of Blanc to the sidelines.

"I want to wait until it is official, but I know they are on the right track with talks," he explained.

"Laurent wants a bench and a new opportunity to work. Roma are a good club, albeit with a particular type of pressure around them. If it is officially confirmed, then I'm very happy for him."

Reports in Italy claim Blanc is close to agreeing to a two-year deal with the Giallorossi, with Roberto Mancini, Parma's Roberto Donadoni, Stefano Pioli of Bologna and Atalanta boss Stefano Colantuono among the other candidates for the role.

Aurelio Andreazzoli has worked as caretaker manager at Roma since the February sacking of Zdenek Zeman, but is expected to be replaced by a high-profile manager in the summer.
