Roma have agreed to sell goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg to Fulham, according to sporting director Franco Baldini.

Stekelenburg, 30, has been a long-term target of Fulham and was linked with a move to Craven Cottage in the January transfer window.

With Mark Schwarzer likely to depart the club this summer, manager Martin Jol has made it a priority to sign a new goalkeeper. And he appears to have secured the services of  a player he managed at Ajax.

Baldini told Corriere dello Sport "I went to London for the sale of Stekelenburg at Fulham.

"There were questions to be answered, but I closed a deal subject to the usual conditions."

Baldini also attempted to play down speculation that midfielder Daniele De Rossi could leave Roma for Chelsea.

"For De Rossi, I have not done anything and I can not say anything," he added.

Baldini’s future at Roma is also far from secure with fans calling for his resignation after a failure to qualify for European competition.

And the former assistant manager of the England national team has hinted that the side’s poor showing may cost him his job.

"There are a lot of problems: disappointing results, choosing a couple of wrong coaches. At the end someone has to pay for it," Baldini said.

"I have to talk with Pallotta, express my views and listen to his."
