Kuba signs new Dortmund deal
Jakub ‘Kuba’ Blaszczykowski has signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2018.
Blaszczykowski, 27, turned down offers from Liverpool, Manchester City and Juventus, he confirmed on his official Facebook account.
He had been contracted to Dortmund until 2016 but an outstanding Bundesliga and Champions League season had made the Poland captain a target for several top European clubs, with a buy-out clause in his contract reportedly allowing him to leave for only €15 million.
A post on Facebook read: “Kuba has prolonged his contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2018. Despite concrete offers from Juventus, Manchester City and Liverpool he has decided to stay at Borussia.
“I will be able to look back on more than 10 years at Borussia when my contract runs out. Such a long lapse of time is not a matter of course in professional football these days. It makes me very, very proud that a top club like Borussia Dortmund places so much trust in me and plans with me on a long-term basis”
Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc called him a “key player” in Dortmund’s campaign last season both on and off the pitch. Kuba has played 168 Bundesliga games since arriving from Wisla Krakow in 2007, scoring 25 goals and setting up a further 41.
During the 2012-13 his stat of 11 goals and 13 assists in only 27 games put him above both Mario Gotze who scored 10 and set up 12 goals in 28 games and Marco Reus’14 goals and 9 assists, making him the most reliable midfielder at the club.
