LEVERKUSEN, Germany -- Bayer Leverkusen right back Daniel Carvajal is returning to Real Madrid.
Leverkusen says Real exercised its option buy back Carvajal's contract. Carvajal arrived from Real Madrid's reserve side and had a good season for Leverkusen, which finished third in the Bundesliga and qualified for the Champions League.
The deal stipulated that Real can bring back Carvajal for a set fee of 6.5 million euros within the next three years. Real used the option after one year. Carvajal's transfer fee last season was 5 million euros.
Also Monday, Leverkusen signed 39-goalkeeper goalkeeper Andres Palop Cervera from Sevilla on a free contract for a backup role.
