Fulham are close to completing the signing of Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, according to reports in the Fulham Chronicle.

Stekelenburg, 30, was a target for the Cottagers during the January transfer window and played under manager Martin Jol at Ajax.

The Netherlands international is viewed as a long-term replacement for Mark Schwarzer whose future at the club is in doubt.

Fulham have wasted no time rebuilding their squad for next season with Derek Boateng and Fernando Amorebieta already signed this summer.
