Leverkusen eyeing up Aubameyang deal
Bayer Leverkusen are looking to bring in St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a possible replacement if Andre Schurrle departs for Chelsea.
Schurrle has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time and has reportedly already agreed personal terms with the Premier League club.
Leverkusen, however, have no plans of letting the Germany international leave for the Europa League winners before they have lined up someone else to replace him.
Aubameyang, who hit 19 goals in 37 league games during the 2012-13 campaign, has been scouted by sporting director Rudi Voller, although a number of clubs are believed to be in for the Gabon international.
“Leverkusen is still in the race,” Aubemeyang’s agent, Oscar Damiani, told Bild.
The want-away striker, however, confirmed at the weekend that he has yet to make up his mind on his next destination.
“I am hoping for a quick decision if I leave for Italy, England or Germany,” Aubameyang told L’Equipe.
The €10 million-rated player has also been linked with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Fiorentina, with Aubameyang’s previous statements suggesting he could be happy to stay in Ligue 1.
“PSG is a possibility, but we are still waiting for a concrete offer,” Aubameyang said previously.
The former AC Milan man can also play on the left wing, which would appeal to Leverkusen given Schurrle’s reportedly imminent departure.
Meanwhile, the Bundesliga side have sent Chile international Junior Fernandes on loan to Dinamo Zagreb.
The attacker failed to win a place in the Leverkusen team during his first season in Europe, making just six league appearances for the club.
“Junior has not been able to establish himself up to now due to the competition for places in the team,” Voller said.
“We do recognise his potential and we want to give him the opportunity to develop his game during this loan period. We see this as a good opportunity to secure his long-term progress here.”
Fernandes is contracted to Leverkusen until 2017.
