Benfica completed a truly miserable end to the season as they conceded two late goals to lose the Taca de Portugal final 2-1 to Guimaraes.
Looking to salvage some silverware from a campaign which promised so much only to unravel in the final fortnight as the Liga and the Europa League slipped through their fingers, the Lisbon side threw away the lead given them by Nicolas Gaitan after half an hour.
But they have become accustomed to losing at the death in recent weeks, having conceded an injury-time winner to Porto in their penultimate game of the league season, allowing their rivals to take the title by a point, and to Chelsea in the Europa League final.
Guimaraes did not leave it quite so late as El Arbi Hillel Soudani equalised in the 79th minute and Ricardo completed the turnaround two minutes later to give the underdogs their first Portuguese Cup success.
