Ailing Oribe Peralta off Mexico team
Santos Laguna striker Oribe Peralta will not be included on Mexico's team for upcoming Confederations Cup and CONCACAF World Cup qualifying due to an injury to his right knee.
Mexico team coach Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre has called up Cruz Azul's Gerardo Flores in his absence for the CONCACAF Hex matches against Jamaica, Panama and Costa Rica as well as Confed Cup play, the Mexican Football Federation said Thursday.
Santos doctor Fernando Rangel as well as the national team doctor Jose Luis Serrano confirmed that Peralta won't be able to play.
Mexico is set to play a friendly on May 31 vs. Nigeria in Houston. On June 4, the team travels to Jamaica for Hex matches and then to Panama on June 7 while hosting Costa Rica June 11 at Estadio Azteca.
Group A Confederations Cup play starts June 15 in Brazil.
