Millwall have played down reports on Thursday morning that former Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel is set to take charge of the club.

The Daily Mail and The Independent have reported that Babbel, who ended a brief and unsuccessful stint with Hoffenheim in December last year, is on the verge of leading the Lions.

However, Millwall have told the London Evening Standard that there has been "no approach" for the 40-year-old, who spent four years in England as a player with Liverpool and Blackburn.

FA Cup semi-finalists Millwall are searching for a replacement for Kenny Jackett, who ended his six-year reign earlier this month after steering the club to Championship safety.
