Sunderland defender Titus Bramble has confirmed he will leave the club once his contract expires in the summer.

Bramble, 31, signed from Wigan Athletic for a fee in the region of £1 million in 2010 and was linked with a move to the MLS earlier this week. With his last game coming against Manchester United in March, speculation had been rife that manager Paolo Di Canio was not intending to offer the former Ipswich defender a new contract. And Bramble has now confirmed the news via his official Twitter account.

Believed to be one of the group of players Di Canio has fined for unprofessionalism since he joined the club, reports claimed the Italian had been looking to fine Bramble £140,000 for what he perceived to a breach of his club conduct.

Bramble is expected to be the first of many departures at the Stadium of Light this summer as Di Canio looks to weed out players he considers not to fit into his plans. Fellow defender Matthew Kilgallon had previously confirmed he would be leaving the club once his contract expired, with Sunderland willing to listen to offers for Phil Bardsley after the Scotland international was pictured in a casino covered in £50 notes last week.
