Nils Petersen has begged Bayern Munich to allow him to make a permanent switch to Werder Bremen.

Petersen, 21, scored 25 goals in 33 games with Energie Cottbus in the second tier in 2010-11 before making the move to Bayern, but he has made a limited impact with the German champions in the Bundesliga.

He joined Bremen on a year-long loan in the summer, and has now told the Syker Kreiszeitung newspaper that he wants to make the switch permanent. “My mind is completely made up: I want to stay,” he said.

However, Bayern said in April that they were seeking €4 million Petersen, and he added: "I just hope Bayern show understanding and say: ‘We get the idea that Nils wants to do his thing in Bremen.’ They might have to miss out on some money but, to tell it like it is, they also get rid of me.”

Petersen has netted 11 goals for Bremen but has not added to his tally since mid-February. Even so, other clubs - notably Wolfsburg - have been linked and, as Bremen have so far offered just €3 million, the player knows Bayern will consider offers from other clubs.

“I know that FC Bayern are a commercial enterprise and that they have no reason to take the first offer and make their decision based on the wishes of the player,” he said. “I know clubs capable of paying more will knock on the door. My hope is that Bayern just don’t sell me off somewhere just because they can get more money.”

He is now pinning his hopes on Bayern adding the Champions League and DFB-Pokal to their Bundesliga triumph this season. “Then they won’t need the small change anymore,” he said.
