Esteban Granero, heavily linked with a move to La Liga side Real Betis, says his time with Queens Park Rangers is coming to a close.

Granero, 25, has made 23 Premier League appearances this season, scoring one goal and assisting another, but has featured rarely under Harry Redknapp in recent months. With QPR relegated to the Championship, the former Real Madrid midfielder has suggested he will not be looking to help them bounce back at the first attempt.

- Smith: Harry's harsh assessment

"I am not considering playing in the second division," he said in comments reported in Estadio Deportivo. "That is not the place for me."

The former Spain Under-21 international almost joined Sevilla after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho at Madrid, before opting to join QPR on a reported €4 million annual salary. Betis boss Pepe Mel recently confirmed he was interested in taking Granero to Andalucia, however his club, currently in administration, would be unable to offer anything like that wage.

Granero, who talked enthusiastically about his new life in London during his first months in the capital, said money was not the most important thing he considered when making a career move.

"For me the most important thing is football," he said. "I have never prioritised economic matters or other aspects."
