Eric Abidal's agent David Venditelli says his client is growing impatient with Barcelona stalling over offering a new deal to keep the defender at the Camp Nou.

Abidal has made four appearances, three of those as a substitute, since making his return from a liver transplant operation in April. He had originally undergone treatment for a tumour first discovered in early 2011.

The French international is out of contract at the end of the current season, and his representative told RAC 1 that the lack of a response from the Catalan club was becoming difficult to take.

"Abidal has started to get disappointed because of how long it is taking Barcelona to respond," Venditelli said. "For Abidal it is getting more and more difficult to accept, not whether he will continue or not in Barcelona, but just the wait in itself."

Reports in Catalonia suggest that Barcelona are unsure if Abidal, 34 in July, will ever reach his previous high standards having spent almost two full seasons on the sidelines. Venditelli said Abidal appreciated the offer of an 'honorary position' at the Camp Nou, but he would prefer to play on.

"The player is not disappointed by the honorary position which the club have proposed, but because they do not respond on the sporting side," he said.

Abidal, currently sidelined with a minor calf injury, himself told RAC 1 on April 18 that he was hopeful of continuing his playing career.

"I am ready to play," Abidal said. "But now it depends on the boss [Tito Vilanova]. If my health allows it, I want to keep playing. I would like if it were at Barca, but that depends on them. I do not have offers from other clubs, but there has been a lot of contact. The club have behaved very, very well with me."
