Kruse, 24, has impressed in the Bundesliga this season, scoring four goals and setting up six in 27 starts. His form caught the eye of Leverkusen, who have reportedly triggered a €1.5 million release clause in his contract.

Andre Schurrle appears increasingly likely to join Chelsea in the summer, and Kruse could provide the club with a ready-made replacement.

"It's true, (we have) agreed terms and it's all about the details now," Kruse said.

"I love the Dusseldorf club and the fans, but I want to develop myself as aplayer."

Third-placed Leverkusen have qualified for next season's Champions League, with a fourth-placed finish their lowest possible ranking with three matches to play this term.

Kruse has already won 23 caps for the Socceroos, scoring twice, although he has only started six games. He earned a move to Germany in 2011 after impressing with the Melbourne Victory, where he bagged 16 goals in 39 A-League appearances.
