Boca Juniors have banished the demons of their domestic form to claim a slender 1-0 victory over Brazilian side Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores.

The Argentine giant is stuck in 18th position in the Primera Division, just two points of the foot of the table, but lifted the doldrums with its first win in six games, snatching the first leg of the clubs' round of 16 tie.

Nicolas Blandi was the hero for the home side, scoring the game's decisive goal early in the second half.

But Boca were made to work for their victory after substitute Pablo Ledesma collected two yellow cards and was sent to the stands late in the match.

However, Corinthians could not find an equaliser and will hope to find a break in the Boca defence when they return to Brazil for the second leg on May 15.
