Andre Villas-Boas wants Danny Rose to decline a potential summer move to Sunderland in order to remain at Tottenham next season.
Rose, 22, has only made eight Premier League appearances for Spurs since signing from Leeds in 2007 and been sent out on loan four times. However, his time at Sunderland has been successful and he is now a contender for the club’s Player of the Year award having made 27 appearances for the club this season.
Rose has distanced himself from speculation and said he will not make a decision on his future until the end of the season, although he has hinted at remaining with the Black Cats.
Left-back has been a problem position for Tottenham this season with both Kyle Naughton and Jan Vertonghen filling in for Benoit Assou-Ekotto whose future at the club is in doubt following a campaign which has been interrupted by injury and loss of form leading Villas-Boas to turn to Rose for a solution.
