Rooney linked to PSG move
Former Paris Saint-Germain sports advisor Michel Moulin has claimed Wayne Rooney will join the Ligue 1 side this summer but the reports have been played down in England.
French sports tabloid Le10Sport ran a story that Rooney was close to agreeing a move to PSG for next season. Moulin, the paper's boss and a former sporting advisor at PSG in the pre-QSI era, told iTele on Sunday that a deal was close to completion.
"I can tell you from reliable sources that Rooney to PSG is a done deal. He will be at PSG next season," Moulin said. However, his quotes have generated far greater interest across the Channel than they have within France.
In England, the Daily Mail reports that Rooney, 27, is “baffled” by Moulin’s suggestion, adding that he is keen to open talks about a new contract this summer on his £200,000-a-week deal.
Rooney’s future at Old Trafford has been cast into doubt following links to a summer move for Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao and Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to leave him out of his team for some of United’s key games this season, notably the Champions League last 16 second leg defeat to Real Madrid.
The England international, who was deployed in a midfield role for the 2-0 Premier League win against Stoke on Sunday, has a contract which runs for another two years, leading to speculation that United would look to cash in on him this summer.
