Jeffrey Bruma is set to leave Hamburg when his loan deal from Chelsea runs out at the end of the season.

Bruma, 21, joined the Bundesliga side on a two-year loan in 2011. The Netherlands international centre-back has made 39 appearances but has failed to hold down a regular place in Torsten Fink’s team.

He played in the recent 9-2 defeat at Bayern Munich – Hamburg’s worst ever loss in the Bundesliga – and was heavily criticised for his performance, despite scoring one of the Hamburg goals.

Earlier this year, Bruma had said he wanted to make the loan move permanent, telling the Hamburger Morgenpost: “Our boss and our general manager have indicated to me that I will be here for a long time to come. They want me to sign a contract for several years.”

But following the Bayern hammering, general manager Frank Arnesen said it was unlikely that Bruma would stay. His two most recent appearances have come for Hamburg’s struggling reserve team, and he was sent off after being booked twice in Wednesday’s match against Weiche Flensburg.
