Gomes, who signed on a six-month loan deal from Tottenham in January, suffered the injury after colliding with Andreas Lambertz during the Bundesliga clash.

The former PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper will remain at Hoffenheim for his rehabilitation after undergoing surgery to have four pins inserted in his index finger, according to Spurs.

A statement on Hoffenheim's official website read: "Heurelho Gomes will play no more this season for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

"The goalkeeper withdrew from the Bundesliga match against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Friday night after suffering a fraction of the left metacarpal bone which needs surgery. The Brazilian will be out for eight weeks."

Gomes thanked his fans for their support on his Twitter account.

He wrote: "Guys, THANK YOU for the affection from all of you. Having this support only motivates me even more to come back soon."

Gomes joined Hoffenheim after finding himself as the fourth-choice goalkeeper at White Hart Lane, and has since impressed in Germany, conceding nine goals in nine games.
